Oh, I definitely used to walk around using this quote as a shield - daring someone to tell me that I needed to straighten up my act.  And that is the true danger of believing something so selfish.

This quote is about being who you are, not acting however you please.  This quote is about self-respect, not permitting disrespect for others.  This quote is about self-love, not selfish actions.

Don't stand behind this quote when you are irritated with someone and lash out.  Don't stand behind this quote when you make yet another bad life choice.

The thing is, those who mind will forgive you, but it is only because you matter.  The only reason something people don't mind your harmful actions is because you matter as much as you think you do.
